How’s pandemic been for you - what’s yours last 12 month story?

The pandemic has been tough, there are no 2 ways about that! At the same time it has been very, very empowering and liberating. Our main source of income is conducting training workshops and with the lockdown last year, it literally disappeared overnight. Bookings were cancelled on a daily basis and for 3 months we had no business at all. It was the worst case scenario come true.

The good thing is that it forced us out of the complacency that we didn't even know we were in. Here is why I say that:

  • Renewed purpose - people often ask that question 'What would you do if you had 5 million?' - as a way to find out where your passion lies in. I've always thought that the bigger question is 'What would you do anyway? Even if you are not getting paid?' - that question was answered for me last year. I am totally doing what I want to do and I have had really strong evidence that I am in the right place.
  • Lots of learning and with that the confidence that we can face tough times. Learnt to pivot - we worked day and night and picked up the skills to deliver virtually. We managed to get back on track with our work and some lucky breaks. I think it made our business and partnership stronger than ever.
  • Focus on building the systems that will help us make it a more robust business - systemising BD, Accounts etc. I am sure that these will reap us benefits in the future.

How are empowering yourself with LinkedIn?

Personally I've been running from the Sales & BD side of the business for years. The coaching with Beyond99 has empowered me to take baby steps towards accepting and even getting better with this very important side of the business.

I also enjoy the ideas sharing and thoughts that I am now being exposed to as I develop my network.

But the main one is feeling more empowered to sell my business and my own services.

Why did you rebound to LinkedIn?

LinkedIn ABCD - and seeing the results we got from that.

Would love to hear your "This is awesome" moment on LinkedIn?

One of my posts went viral - and it was something that I really believed in. Didn't think too many other people would resonate but that was what happened. I loved the discussions that it created.

Share your Linkedin journey?

I got onto LinkedIn 7 years ago, we even hired a very expensive LinkedIn Coach. It didn't work for us. That was also on us – we didn’t have the clarity that we needed to have at that point. After that I have made attempts at LinkedIn throughout but inconsistently – there have been bouts of activity and then bouts of being off completely. It was like seeing a light but having it just out of reach. The turning point for me was the LinkedIn ABCD workshop, it broke it down sufficiently granularly so that I knew what to do. This has only been enhanced by the coaching. Totally convinced of the value now and I am sure the results will come in in the future.

Your AHA moment on the Killing it on Linkedin Workshop?

So many! I think the biggest learning is that Connecting, Commenting and Posting work together. Earlier my focus was always only on posting.

A learning that you would like to share with everyone?
